One of the fun parts of starting a new year is making trend predictions for everything from fashion to tech. These guesses can range from highly likely to wild stabs in the dark.
Today, we’re joining the fun with our fashion and beauty trend predictions for 2025. You’ll find the colors, styles, products, and even a few mindsets we think will be big this year. Will any of them come true? We’ll have to wait and see.
Remember that any trend this year is just that- a trend. You don’t have to try them if it’s not your style. Or if you try it and like it, you don’t have to stop enjoying it when it’s no longer popular.
2025 Fashion Trend Predictions
Gingham
Gingham was a big trend last summer, and we think it will continue this year. People are looking for things to remind them of childhood and simpler times, and gingham perfectly captures both. Though the pattern is timeless, expect to see it used in ultra-modern garments for an updated look.
Butter Yellow
Butter yellow was one of last year’s surprise trends, and it’s still going strong this year. Especially expect to see it more as we approach spring. While the color doesn’t suit everyone, those in the light spring/summer color seasons should try it.
Boho
Boho was big in the 70s and the 90s, and now it’s making a comeback again. Hallmarks include layers, flowy silhouettes, and fun accessories like big belts and dangle earrings. We’ll probably also see a rise in cowboy-inspired clothes alongside it.
Bold Blue
Bright cobalt blue is another color trend from last year that’s not going away any time soon. We’ve seen it everywhere, from clothing to makeup. It’s a great way to add more color to your wardrobe, especially for those in the winter color season.
Boat Shoes
Loafers of all kinds are rising in popularity, but especially boat shoes. However, this is a more controversial trend, as many people associate them with frat boys and try-hards. But if boat shoes appeal to you, don’t let those negative connotations deter you.
Charms
Charms and trinkets have captured hearts as a way to display your personality, kind of like enamel pins. People are using them everywhere, but especially on their bags. Why not start collecting charms in 2025 and use them to make a purse, necklace, or bracelet custom to you?
Structured Shoulders
Many 80s trends are making a comeback lately. One of the trends we think will be huge in 2025 is the return of big shoulders on shirts and jackets. Whether this will be thanks to shoulder pads or clever sewing remains to be seen.
Slimmer Jeans
Big, baggy, oversized jeans, such as barrel jeans, have been popular for the last few years. This year, many people predict slimmer cuts will return. We might even see a new version of skinny jeans soon.
Cherry Red
Mocha Mousse may be Pantone’s color of the year, but Pinterest predicts cherry red will be 2025’s color of choice. They may be right, as this dark red shade is popping up in fashion and makeup. With blue and yellow also trending, it seems primary colors may be the move for 2025.
Personal Style
2024 was the year people became tired of micro trends and TikTok aesthetics. In 2025, there will be a stronger push for developing a personal style and wearing what you want rather than what the algorithm says you should. Expect to see more unique outfits that don’t fit in a box as the year continues.
Beauty Trends
Berry Colors
Berry shades, such as cherry, plum, and cranberry, are growing in popularity in the makeup community. The muted shades pair well with the 90s inspiration and natural makeup trends we’re seeing.
Almond Shaped Nails
Almond nails are an elegant nail shape that we’re seeing everywhere. They’re not sharp like stiletto nails, but the rounded point gives them more interest than a regular oval nail.
Bobs and Lobs
Long hair has been popular for the last few years, but now we’re seeing a resurgence of bobs and lobs. These hairstyles are more low maintenance and fit well with the return of 90s trends. As for style, everything goes from straight to waves.
Cat Eye Nails
Cat-eye nails are a new take on the velvet/chrome nails of years past. As the name suggests, this nail polish creates a cat-eye effect in the center of your nail. It’s an eye-catching look with all kinds of variants.
Freckles
Freckles used to be looked down on. Now, they’re trendy, with people using makeup, stickers, and even tattoos to achieve the look. If you have natural freckles, now is the time to let them shine.
Big Hair
Another 80s trend that’s coming back is voluminous hair. Blowouts and fluffy curls are all the rage right now. There’s also a big trend toward encouraging natural curls and embracing authentic texture.
Glitter Eyeshadow
Complex eyeshadow looks seem to be heading out again. Instead, people are going for a simple coat of glitter over their entire lid. It’s not exactly an everyday look, but it could be fun to try for a party.
Simple Skincare
People are tired of 15-step skincare routines that take thirty minutes to complete. In 2025, more people will prioritize simple skincare routines using a few multi-purpose products. Longer routines will still be around, but people will save them for everything showers.
Shop Your Stash
Overconsumption is another thing people are tired of. There’s been a big push to have no-buy challenges for makeup and skincare, instead “shop their stach” to use what they already have. This is a great way to reduce waste and pare down your makeup collection.
Multi-Use Products
Another way people are incorporating simplicity into beauty is with multiple-use makeup products. A tinted stick that can be used as lipstick and blush or a palette that works for eyeshadow and highlighter. These products help reduce time in the bathroom and save space on your shelves.
As we said, these are just predictions. The beauty of trends is that no one can fully predict them.
