Fall is the start of award season in the movie business. From September through the end of the year, studios release their biggest contenders for the Oscars, Golden Globes, and more.
For the average moviegoer, this means you’ll see a lot of dramas and biopics releasing soon, such as The Weight or The Social Reckoning. Don’t worry if that’s not your cup of tea, though. There are also plenty of popcorn movies, such as Practical Magic 2 or Street Fighter, to look forward to. And for kids, take them to see Forgotten Island or Wildwood.

Practical Magic 2

What’s it about? Two witches must confront the dark curse that threatens to unravel their family once and for all.
Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman reunite in this sequel to their almost thirty-year-old Halloween favorite, alongside newer stars Joey King and Maisie Williams. But the real question is: will the sequel be as much of a cult classic as the original, or just another cash grab?

What’s it about? A high-end courier has three hours to transport a liver from Brisbane to the Gold Coast.
This movie looks equal parts action-packed, funny, and heartwarming. Alan Ritchson and Owen Wilson star as the leads, and from the trailers alone, they seem to play off each other well.
The Weight
September 18, Theaters
What’s it about? Imprisoned in a labor camp run by an unscrupulous overseer, a man becomes entangled in a perilous gold smuggling scheme in his pursuit to regain custody of his daughter.
Ethan Hawke delivers another fantastic performance in this historical drama. It looks quite tense and intriguing, so we can’t wait to see the full story play out on the big screen.
The Love Hypothesis

What’s it about? After an impulsive kiss, two scientists end up in a fake relationship, testing their theories about love and each other.
The Love Hypothesis was a huge BookTok hit when it came out. Now, a movie adaptation is finally hitting the big screen (or at least your TV). The real question is whether it’ll do justice to the novel.

What’s it about? Chris Hansen, host of “To Catch a Predator,” sets out to make television history in 2006.
To Catch a Predator was a wildly controversial TV show in the early 2000s. This movie explores how it came about, with Robert Pattinson playing the lead role of Chris Hansen.
Forgotten Island

What’s it about? Best friends Jo and Raissa stumble upon a mysterious portal that transports them to Nakali, a fantastical island that’s filled with magical creatures. When they discover that the memories of their entire friendship are the price for returning home, they try to find a way to leave the island before they forget each other forever.
DreamWorks’ latest film brings Filipino culture to the big screen. The animation looks fun and unique, paired with a story of friendship and magic that kids and adults will love.
Heart of the Beast

What’s it about? After surviving a plane crash, a former special forces soldier finds himself trapped in the unforgiving Alaskan wilderness with his combat dog. Together, they battle the elements and other animals in a harsh landscape that would likely kill any other man or dog.
We’ll be honest- this movie looks like every other survival movie out there. But with Brad Pitt in the lead and a director with a track record of gritty action movies, we still hope it’ll be a good watch.
The Stunt Driver

What’s it about? Stuntman Ken Carter embarks on a quest to execute a stunt of launching a rocket car across the St. Lawrence River from Canada to the United States in the 1970s. He encounters absurd challenges along the way.
This movie is based on the real story of Ken Carter and his infamous car jump. We love how the filmography seems to capture the look and feel of the 70s despite being made in 2026.

Digger

What’s it about? The most powerful man in the world embarks on a frantic mission to prove that he’s humanity’s savior.
Digger is already shaping up to be an absurdist, comedic romp of a film. It’s also giving Tom Cruise a chance to be nominated for a well-deserved Oscar with his performance.
The Social Reckoning

What’s it about? Facebook engineer Frances Haugen and The Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz blow the whistle on the social network’s most guarded secrets.
In 2010, director Aaron Sorkin brought the creation of Facebook to life in The Social Network. This year, he’s back with a new film about the people who revealed the dark secrets of the social media platform to the public.
Sense and Sensibility
October 16, Theaters
What’s it about? Three sisters experience love and heartbreak after they’re forced to leave their family estate with their widowed mother and move to a humble cottage.
Daisy Edgar-Jones stars in this new remake of Jane Austen’s classic novel. Initial responses to the trailer are mixed, leaving us wondering if it can beat the popularity of the Emma Thompson version.
Street Fighter

What’s it about? Estranged street fighters Ryu and Ken Masters get thrown back into combat when the mysterious Chun-Li recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament – a brutal clash of fists, fate and fury. However, behind the battle royale lies a deadly conspiracy that forces them to face off against each other and the demons from their past.
Video games have a notoriously hard time being adapted to the big screen. But so far, this version looks pretty good, leaning into the goofiness and camp of the source material instead of shying away from it.
Wildwood

What’s it about? After her baby brother is abducted by a murder of crows, headstrong teenager Prue McKeel launches a desperate rescue mission into an enchanted forest hidden just beyond Portland, Ore. Joined by a hapless but loyal classmate, Prue risks it all as she navigates a world of bandits, talking animals, and powerful figures driven by grief and ambition.
Laika Studios has brought us masterpieces like Coraline and ParaNorman in beautifully done stop-motion animation. This year, they’re bringing to life an adaptation of Wildwood by Colin Meloy, which looks equal parts haunting and magical.
Klara and the Sun

What’s it about? Klara is an artificial intelligence friend who wants nothing more than to find the perfect home. It soon meets Josie, a young woman who has a fraught relationship with her mother. But Klara’s innocent wonder and unwavering loyalty soon start to heal the family and bring some light to Josie’s complicated world.
Klara and the Sun is another book-to-movie adaptation, which seems to be a popular theme in the theaters this fall. With Jenny Ortega and Amy Adams starring, the performances are bound to be great.

Godzilla Minus Zero

Godzilla Minus One was a huge hit back in 2023. Now the team is back with a new adventure starring Godzilla in his 39th film that will hopefully be as good as the first movie.
Ebenezer

What’s it about? Miserly businessman Ebenezer Scrooge faces his past, present, and future as he fights for a second chance at redemption.
Do we really need a new Christmas Carol adaptation at this point? Probably not, but we’re getting one anyway. This time, Johnny Depp will tackle the role in what they’re selling as the “untold” version of the story.
How to Rob a Bank

What’s it about? Bank robbers are posting their heists on social media, causing police to chase them.
The cast for this movie is absolutely stacked, with Nicholas Hoult, Zoe Kravitz, and John C. Reilly all in lead roles. The trailers look quite intriguing, and we can’t wait to see this Robin Hood-esque story play out on the big screen.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping

What’s it about? Revisit the world of Panem 24 years before the events of The Hunger Games, starting on the morning of the reaping of the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell.
Haymitch has always been a fan-favorite Hunger Games character. Now his story is coming to the big screen in an adaptation of Suzanne Collins latest book.
